Liberal slanted analysis - Conservative slanted analysis

Yes, Romney won. That was expected since the other major candidates, Giuliani, McCain, and F. Thompson did not bother to compete. And I think Romney is a lot like Iowa. They are both pretty undistinguished, other than for just a general suckiness.

The big winner? Huckabee. Huckabee and Brownbeck had been battling for second, and basically for the position of the "true conservative" option compared to McCain's, Giuliani's, and Romney's less than ideal conservative credentials. I suppose his failure to understand existentialism was considered a plus by those idiots out wandering around to our southwest, although both Huckabee and Brownbeck presumably get the Iowa seal of approval for their incomprehensible refusal to accept the theory of evolution. Brownbeck finished third, despite spending more than Huckabee. He says he is not ready to call it quits yet, but I think it will happen before long.

The big loser is clearly Wisconsin's own Gov. Tommy Thompson. He had basically tied his entire campaign to winning the Iowa straw poll and using it as a springboard, saying he would end his White House bid unless he finished in first or second place. This didn't happen, despite the fact that he should have appealed to Iowa voters. Thompson announced today that he is officially out of the race.

"I'm outta the race," Thompson told MyFoxMilwaukee.com. Thompson, 65, said he felt like he'd been hit by a Mack truck after hearing the news of his 6th place finish at Saturday's Iowa Republican Party Straw Poll, adding that his campaign was shocked after hearing the results. They were hoping for a top two finish.
